Your garage door, on your phone

Open, close and — the feature people actually love — check whether you left it open, from anywhere. We fit smart openers and add Wi-Fi control to many existing ones.

Setting up a smart Wi-Fi garage door opener with phone app control

The two ways to get there

A new smart opener with Wi-Fi built in — the right call when your opener is at end of life anyway. Or a smart controller added to a healthy existing opener, which gives most openers app control without replacing the motor. Which one suits you depends on your opener's age and condition, and we'll say plainly if the retrofit is all you need.

What you get

Phone alerts when the door opens and closes, a door-status check from anywhere (the 'did I close it?' at the airport, answered), the ability to let in a delivery or a neighbor remotely, and on many systems, schedules and guest access. In the mountains there's a practical extra: knowing the door stayed closed through a storm, and closing it remotely if it didn't.

What setup involves

Fitting the unit or controller, connecting it to your home Wi-Fi (signal strength at the garage is the usual mountain-home wrinkle — garages sit far from routers), pairing the app on your phone, setting your alerts, and testing the safety sensors, which smart control never bypasses. We leave with you able to run it, not just installed.

Questions, answered straight

My opener works fine. Do I need a whole new one for phone control?

Usually not — a smart controller retrofits many healthy openers. If your opener is also old, noisy or sensor-era questionable, we'll lay out both paths and their honest trade-offs.

Wi-Fi barely reaches my garage. Will it work?

That's the most common issue in spread-out mountain homes. We test signal at the opener before fitting anything; sometimes the answer is a controller placement tweak, sometimes your network needs a hand first — we'll tell you which before you spend on hardware.

Is app control safe? Anyone could open my door?

Smart systems use your account login and rolling codes, and the door's safety sensors and auto-reverse stay fully active. It's the lost-remote problem in reverse: app access you can revoke beats a physical remote you can't.
