Door off its track? Hands off it.

A door that's jumped its track is a door half-supported under spring tension. Forcing it bends panels and can bring it down. This is a stop-what-you're-doing and call job.

Technician reseating a garage door panel back onto its track

Why doors jump their tracks

A cable that snapped or slipped lets one side fall until rollers pop out. A car that nudges a closed door can knock rollers off. Worn rollers climb out of worn track. Or the track itself bent or loosened until it couldn't hold the door's path. The off-track door is usually the symptom, not the disease.

What not to do

Don't push it back in, don't run the opener, and don't stand in the opening. A door hanging by one track is under spring tension with half its guidance gone. Keep kids and pets out of the garage entirely until it's been made safe.

What we do

We secure the door first, then find why it left the track — cable, roller, track or impact — and fix the cause, not just the position. The door is re-seated roller by roller, the tracks checked for the damage the excursion caused, and the system balanced and run-tested before we leave. Reseating a door without fixing its cause just schedules the sequel.

Questions, answered straight

Can I close it just for tonight's security?

Don't try — a half-seated door can drop without warning. Call us as an emergency: (828) 575-4543, answered 24/7 by Daniela, our AI receptionist. If the house is open and you're uneasy, that's exactly what the emergency line is for.

What caused it? It just happened one morning.

Most often a frayed cable finally letting go on one side, or rollers worn to the point of climbing out. Both are checkable at the visit — and both are why we inspect the whole system, not just the escaped rollers.

Will the panels be damaged?

Sometimes a panel bends when the door twists. Straightening is possible for minor bends; a cracked or folded section may need a panel replacement — see our panel replacement page. We'll show you the damage plainly.
